Yet another in a seemingly endless litany of iPhone 5 related rumors has surfaced today. It seems the Japanese site Kodawarisan, which we could only read using Google Translate, received word from the ever popular “source in the know” that Apple will launch its highly anticipated smartphone on September 7, MacRumors reports. What’s giving this rumor some extra legs is the fact that the September 7 date matches up nicely with the time frame during which Apple usually announces changes to its iPod lineup.
And since Apple didn’t announce anything about the iPhone 5 during the Worldwide Developers Conference in June—when it has traditionally made iPhone related announcements—and the company sticks to a fairly ridged release schedule, most in the industry believe that the iPhone 5 will make its debut this fall. Earlier this month, rumors were flying that the iPhone 5 would actually launch in October, so take this latest report with the usual grain of salt.
New rumors about the smartphone seem to hit the web on a daily basis. Previous reports had the phone slimming down, sporting a larger screen, getting a metal backing, and even being offered as a slider. As per usual, the always tight-lipped Apple has addressed none of these rumors. Even the smartphone’s name is still up in the air.
Update: Well that was shot down fast. According to The Loop, Apple will not hold a press event on Sept. 7, which completely derails the previous rumors of an iPhone 5 reveal. But like the Kodawarison report, The Loop also attributes its information to unnamed sources. Let the rumor mill continue.
