Top 5 Tablets For Students

A year ago, the iPad was pretty much the only tablet in town. Now there are plenty of compelling choices for students, whether you’re looking for a compact 7-inch slate that lets you take notes with a pen or a tablet that docks with a keyboard for faster typing. Of course, the iPad 2 remains the top seller for a reason, and Apple’s thinner and faster sequel will get even better this fall with the iOS 5 update.

It’s even thinner (0.34 inches) and lighter (1.34 pounds) than before, and now it also has front- and rear-facing cameras for making FaceTime calls oand recording videos. Yes, Apple’s tablet remains the device to beat. The dual-core A5 processor really flies, and the 9.7-inch, 1024 x 768 IPS display offers the best viewing angles. And with more than 90,000 apps ready to download, no one can touch Apple when it comes to apps. Up next: The iOS 5 update coming this fall will offer a ton of new features, including an improved notification system, tabbed browsing, Twitter integration, and iTunes in the cloud.

German Court Lifts Ban on Galaxy Tabs in All E.U. Countries Except Germany

Europeans, with the exception of Germans, can once again purchase Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 following a German court’s decision to lift a preliminary injunction that banned sales of the tablet throughout the European Union. According to the Wall Street Journal, the decision to overturn the injunction was made after questions arose about whether a German court could ban a South Korean company from selling its products in countries outside of Germany. As it stands now, Deutschlanders are the only Europeans that can’t purchase the Galaxy Tab 10.1. That may still change, however, if the court is found to have the authority to uphold the initial ban.
But jurisdictional greivances aren’t the only things impacting Apple’s case against Samsung. On Monday, the Netherlands-based publication Webwereld uncovered inconsistencies with evidence Apple presented to the court. The evidence, a side-by-side photo comparison of the iPad 2 and the Galaxy  Tab was said to show the striking design similarities between the iPad 2 and the Galaxy Tab. But when Webwereld took a closer look at the photo, they found that the Galaxy Tab’s dimensions may have been manipulated to increase the size of the the tablet by eight percent, making it more closely resemble the iPad. Whether or not the photo was purposefully manipulated or if it was accidentally included as evidence remains to be seen. In an interview with PC World, Amout Groen, an intellectual property rights specialist with the Dutch firm Klos Morel Vos & Schaap, said he doubts that Apple purposefully tried to mislead the court.
The property rights suite has been met with indignation from members of the technology press. To get our own Avram Piltch’s take on the matter, check out his Geek’s Geek column: “Patently Obvious: Pitiful Patent System Has to Go.“

Report: iPhone 5 Set For October 7th Launch, iPad 3 Next Year

The rumor that an iPhone 5 event was coming on September 7th has been put to rest, but new rumors are ready to step up to the plate. The scuttlebutt now predicts a launch date for the company’s new device to be October 7th, with an iPad 3 tablet unveiling sometime in 2012. That is, according to sources close to Apple product blog TiPb.
The blog claims that either “an iPhone 4GS style device” or an entirely revamped iPhone 5 phone could be unveiled as early as the first week in October. The site offers further conjecture, saying that an iPad 3 has been pushed back to Spring 2012 due to trouble expanding a Retina-class resolution screen to fit the tablet’s larger display.
Who sits at the root of this information remains shrouded in mystery. Adding fuel to fire is an additional report from 9to5 Mac that the next generation iPhone will indeed hit the streets on October 7th. The blog goes on to say that two iPhones will be sold, a cheap iPhone 4 variant and a robust iPhone 5 running a dual-core A5 CPU with a new iOS version and boasting an 8-megapixel camera. Is all this likely? Perhaps, and we can’t wait to find out for sure.
